To support the vulnerable, today we delivered 140 tubs of sandwich fillings, salads and coleslaw to FareShare at the Harraby hub. We hope this helps a little during this very difficult and uncertain time.
On 9th April, Calder Foods donated to Covid-19 Mutual Aid UK to support vulnerable people through Covid-19. Items included 9,000 blue vinyl gloves, 40 litres of hand sanitiser, 6,000 alcohol wipes, 20 litres of hand soap, 19,000 blue hair nets, 10 blue aprons & 12 red rolls of cleaning cloth. These products have helped both businesses and individuals including GP practices, care homes, hospitals and home care workers.
On 2nd April, Calder Foods, part of Creative Foods Europe, donated sandwich fillings, coleslaw and 500g dips to Paul Higgins, owner of ‘Gone To The Dogs’ Community Café, helping to provide food for 30 families in the local area. We also delivered to Colin Glover at Petteril Bank Community Hall, former Carlisle City Council leader and current labour elected representative for Currock & Upperby. These products were then distributed to individuals who are unable to get to the supermarkets. Calder Foods has been working in partnership with the GMB Union to support the local community during this very difficult time.

Fillings included Cheese & Onion, Coronation Chicken, Tuna & Sweetcorn, Piri Piri Chicken, Egg Mayonnaise, Tuna Mayonnaise as well as Coleslaw. We are keen to support the local community as much as possible during these very challenging times.
During these unprecedented and difficult times when we have seen a dramatic down turn in business we have chosen to stay open albeit with a reduced workforce. We are determined to support our customers who in turn are doing everything they can to ensure that our products are getting to key workers and the vulnerable, including hospitals, care homes and schools. We are delighted to welcome David McMillan to the business as Site Director for Calder Foods. David brings a wealth of experience with him, having worked in the food industry for 30 years. David joins us from McVities in Glasgow where he was Site Director and prior to that he enjoyed a board role as Production Director for Refresco Gerber in Somerset. In addition, he has worked for Roche Pharmaceuticals, Nestle, Allied Bakeries and Dairy Crest.
David says; “Having joined the company last month, I am already enjoying working for this reputable business with great quality products and people. As Site Director I will look to build on its history of success and help to grow the business within the food to go market, by continuing to manufacture high quality and innovative products and delivering a service we are proud of to our customers.”
In the New Product category, our new Onion Bhaji & Sweet Chilli Filling, aimed at the sandwich and food to go market, was awarded "Highly Commended" at the 2019 Sammies Awards.
